SUMMARY:Artificial Insurance\, a paranoid normal triptych
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Insurance is an installation featuring work by visual and performance artist Justin Lander that will be on view this spring in ArtYard’s VSG (Very Small Galleries)\, three miniature installations hidden in our walls\, visible through small peepholes. \n\n\n\nArtificial Intelligence is an insurance policy that protects us from difficulties in life. It is a golem that makes life easy by outsourcing artificial solutions. We absorb this artificiality\, and it becomes real\, making us artificial. \n\n\n\nArtificial Insurance\, a paranoid normal triptych\, uses found objects\, papier-mâché\, and wire sculptures to create snapshots of a Dadaist puppet show — dream images from the subconscious\, sent as a reminder that\, to insure full humanity\, art cannot be a product of data mining.

SUMMARY:Aqualumina Workshop: Jellyfish Parasols
DESCRIPTION:Please join us to create ethereal jellyfish to carry in Aqualumina’s lantern parade on May 9\, 2026. The workshops\, 1 to 3 PM on Sundays\, Feb 1 & 8\, are led by visual artist Rebecca Kelly. \n\n\n\nParticipants will use ribbon\, fairy lights\, and other materials on parasols to create their own unique design. You may bring any fabric scraps or special adornments you have in mind (no glitter\, please). Participants will use a hot glue gun — children under 14 should be assisted by an adult. \n\n\n\nLimit 15 participants per session. The workshop is $20. Each registered participant will be taking home one parasol to bring to the Festival! \n\n\n\nArtYard staff will lead future jellyfish parasol workshops (dates coming soon!). \n\n\n\nAqualumina is a nighttime riverside lantern festival of music\, visual art\, and community\, and a celebration of the beauty and vulnerability of the Delaware River and river systems worldwide.

SUMMARY:Deep Seated: Chairs & the Stories They Tell
DESCRIPTION:Deep Seated explores chairs\, ancient furniture still ubiquitous today. Responding directly to human anatomy and our need for rest and repose\, the chair also resonates with a multiplicity of connotations. Chairs enable us\, punish us\, connect us\, elevate us\, isolate us\, and appear as rich symbols in dreams\, fairy tales\, and religious myths. \n\n\n\nInstead of representations of chairs – paintings\, prints\, sculptures\, films\, or images in which chairs are a central element – Deep Seated explores chairs as artifacts\, objects\, and the stories they carry with them. \n\n\n\nDeep Seated is a Museum of Everyday Life project\, curated by Founder Clare Dolan.

SUMMARY:Bernadette Simone: I Love My Condo
DESCRIPTION:In highly chromatic depictions of the condominium she lives in\, surrounded by friends\, flowers\, music\, and trees\, Bernadette Simone coalesces her most cherished spaces\, feelings\, and ways of living into repeated symbols\, all rendered in the glow of “forever” (a tense that’s very important to her). The radiance of her thickly applied pastels lends these scenes a playful joyousness – days are fair\, food is good\, friends love us\, and shining song and color wash over it all.Oct 18\, 2025—Feb 8\, 2026

SUMMARY:Joseph Keckler’s Golden Hour with Edgar Oliver and River L. Ramirez
DESCRIPTION:Joseph Keckler’s Golden Hour returns to ArtYard in the new year for an unforgettable evening of daring storytelling and performance. This double bill features two celebrated artists whose fearless\, genre-defying voices illuminate the strange\, the profound\, and the deeply human. \n\n\n\nEdgar Oliver\, a cult favorite of New York’s downtown theatre scene\, is a poet\, playwright\, and performer renowned for his haunting voice and singular tales of longing\, memory\, and eccentricity. A beloved storyteller at The Moth\, Oliver has appeared in films such as That’s Beautiful Frank and Gentlemen Broncos and hosted Odd Folks Home on the Science Channel. His work\, both literary and theatrical\, captures the gothic beauty of the everyday and the mysterious poetry of being alive. \n\n\n\n“[Edgar] Oliver is so brave that it cracks your self-protective reserve — and makes you ashamed\, too\, for all the conventional behavior and thought you hold on to\, just because you think it will shield you\, mostly from your own fears about your own difference.” — The New Yorker \n\n\n\nRiver L. Ramirez (they/them) is a Philly-based experimental artist\, comedian\, musician\, and writer whose performances defy category. From their Adult Swim special Pervert Everything to roles in HBO’s Los Espookys and Julio Torres’s Problemista\, Ramirez brings biting wit and boundless imagination to the stage. Their commissioned works for MoMA\, Baryshnikov Arts Center\, and Ars Nova blend humor\, movement\, and music into transcendent\, unpredictable storytelling. \n\n\n\n“Devastatingly funny\, Ramirez weds trenchant social criticism with juvenile buffoonery.” — Art in America \n\n\n\nCurated and hosted by Joseph Keckler\, Golden Hour celebrates boundary-pushing voices in a warm\, kaleidoscopic variety format. Past guests have included Charlie Kaufman\, Lydia Lunch\, Lindy West\, Ahamefule Oluo\, and Dael Orlandersmith.
