DESCRIPTION:Following its premiere at The Metropolitan Museum of Art\, A Good Night in the Trauma Garden comes to ArtYard. Joseph Keckler‘s new performance piece weaves together original new songs — lush ballads\, ominous grooves — with a vivid narrative portrait of a wild and unforgettable friend\, meditating on what it means to be a classic. \n\n\n\nWritten\, composed\, and performed by Joseph Keckler. Joining him are Grace Bergere (guitar)\, Matthew Dean Marsh (piano)\, Lavinia Pavlish (violin)\, and Kevin Shea (drums). Lighting design by Ayumu “Poe” Saegusa\, cinematography by Stepan Liubimov. Co-produced by Michael Sharkey. \n\n\n\nA Good Night in the Trauma Garden was commissioned by The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Department of Live Arts and co-commissioned by ArtYard and Coffey Street Studios. This performance is the culmination of a weeklong residency at ArtYard. \n\n\n\nJoseph Keckler is a singer\, writer\, and multifaceted creator. Keckler has performed everywhere from dive bars and DIY venues to NPR Tiny Desk\, Centre Pompidou\, and Lincoln Center. His story and essay collection Dragon at the Edge of a Flat World was published by Turtle Point Press. This year\, he has appeared at Big Ears Festival and headlined an Australian tour. He is currently working on new recordings.

DESCRIPTION:Pathbreaking vocalist Davóne Tines returns with his band\, THE TRUTH\, to develop Can I Help You?\, a new work that invites listeners into a world of self-reflection and catharsis. This intimate performance combines subtle strains of classical\, experimental R&B\, jazz\, and string music\, framed by simple guided meditations\, providing a space for a direct\, personal\, and immediate connection. \n\n\n\nAbout Davóne Tines\n\n\n\nDavóne Tines is a pathbreaking artist whose work encompasses a diverse repertoire\, ranging from early music to new commissions by leading composers\, while exploring the social issues of today. A creator\, curator\, and performer at the intersection of many histories\, cultures\, and aesthetics\, he is engaged in work that blends opera\, art song\, spirituals\, contemporary classical\, gospel\, and protest songs as a means to tell a deeply personal story of perseverance connecting to all of humanity. \n\n\n\nTines is an artist who takes full agency of his work\, often devising new programs and pieces from conception to performance. He has premiered numerous operas by today’s leading composers\, including John Adams\, Terence Blanchard\, and Matthew Aucoin; and his concert appearances include performances of works ranging from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony to Kaija Saariaho’s True Fire. He recently made his Metropolitan Opera debut performing in John Adams’ El Niño. His first studio album\, ROBESOИ\, released on Nonesuch Records in September 13\, 2024. explores his connection to legendary American baritone Paul Robeson\, reimagining some of the music Robeson famously sang. \n\n\n\nTines is Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Artist-in-Residence and Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale’s first-ever Creative Partner. He is Musical America’s 2022 Vocalist of the Year\, a winner of the 2020 Sphinx Medal of Excellence\, and the recipient of the 2018 Emerging Artists Award from Lincoln Center. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School and Harvard University.
